Root Canal Treatment in Alpharetta & Norcross

Save Your Natural Tooth with Root Canal Therapy

A root canal is a common dental procedure used to save a tooth that has become infected, inflamed, or severely damaged. Many patients associate root canals with discomfort, but modern root canal treatment is designed to relieve pain — not cause it. At Ace Family Dental, our goal is to eliminate infection, relieve discomfort, and help patients preserve their natural teeth whenever possible.

What Is A Root Canal?

Inside every tooth is a soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. When the pulp becomes infected or inflamed due to deep decay, cracked teeth, trauma, large fillings, or repeated dental procedures, a root canal may be recommended to save the tooth.

The procedure removes the infected tissue, disinfects the inside of the tooth, and seals it to help prevent future infection.

Signs You May Need A Root Canal

Common symptoms include:

  • Severe tooth pain
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold
  • Pain when chewing
  • Swelling of the gums
  • Dental abscess
  • Facial swelling
  • Tooth discoloration
  • Persistent toothache
  • A pimple-like bump on the gums
  • Pain that wakes you up at night

Some patients may have no symptoms at all. An examination and digital X-rays are needed to determine if treatment is necessary.

What Happens During A Root Canal?

1
DiagnosisThe doctor evaluates the tooth using examination, digital X-rays, and clinical testing.
2
Remove InfectionThe infected pulp tissue is carefully removed from inside the tooth.
3
Clean & DisinfectThe inside of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected to eliminate bacteria.
4
Seal The ToothThe root canal system is sealed to help prevent future infection.
5
Final RestorationIn many cases, a crown is recommended after root canal treatment to help protect and strengthen the tooth.

I called on a Friday with a terrible toothache. I was able to get an appointment that Monday and when I went in, I was taken back on time for my appointment and the staff was friendly and informative. Dr Rakesh was very patient and kind with me, plus gave me all the information I needed to know about my tooth. I would definitely recommend this practice.
