You probably know that your teeth are strong, but would you be surprised to hear that the outer layer of your teeth is one of the hardest things in your body? Still, even though enamel is extremely hard, it can be damaged, softened, and worn down. Luckily, there are several symptoms you can watch for and several things you can do to notice weakened enamel.

As you probably know, it’s important for you to brush your teeth for two minutes twice every day. Even though cleaning your teeth is important, would you be surprised to hear that you should wait at least thirty minutes before you brush? When you eat, your enamel will soften for about thirty minutes. After thirty minutes, your enamel will harden and you’ll be able to brush safely again. Sadly, if you brush your teeth when your enamel is soft, you might actually damage your pearly whites.

Similarly, if your teeth are yellowed, rounded, or seem transparent you might have weakened enamel. Certain medications can also have a negative impact on your enamel. If you think your enamel could be weakened, we recommend calling Ace Dentistry Family Dental & Cosmetic Dentist at 678-562-1555.
